HYPREP Commemorates International Youth Day 2025 with Focus on Local Youth Actions for SDGs

HYREP

The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) joins the global community in commemorating International Youth Day 2025 under the theme “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond.” This theme aligns with HYPREP’s mission of environmental remediation, livelihood restoration, and sustainable peacebuilding in Ogoniland, a youth-driven and community-based initiative.

HYPREP recognizes the crucial role of young people in the success of its interventions in Ogoniland. Local youth have significantly contributed to translating HYPREP’s goals into action, from restoring polluted sites to promoting sustainable livelihoods through grassroots mobilization and digital advocacy. The energy, creativity, and resilience of Ogoni youth are advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) toward inclusive growth and national unity.

The role of Ogoni youths in implementing UNEP’s recommendations in Ogoniland is notable. They have been at the forefront of clearing impacted sites, engaging in construction, championing community awareness, and driving narratives of hope through traditional and online media. HYPREP’s projects and programs are strategically designed to benefit Ogoni youths, including land and shoreline remediation, mangrove restoration, potable water projects, and livelihood schemes.

HYPREP emphasizes inclusivity and youth participation, evident in the establishment of the Office of the Special Assistant on Women and Youth Development. The project will continue to empower Ogoni youths through capacity building, inclusiveness, and empowerment, investing in training and skills development to enable young people to become professionals, entrepreneurs, and advocates for sustainable development.

On International Youth Day, HYPREP salutes the courage and dedication of Ogoni youths. Their work in the field, community engagements, and leadership in peacebuilding are restoring the Ogoni environment and building stronger communities. HYPREP calls for continued support of Ogoni youths at home and in the diaspora, believing that together, leveraging local youth actions and fostering inclusivity, HYPREP’s goals can be achieved.

Happy International Youth Day 2025!
