The mother board of African Football, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has announced its 2025 rankings for the continent’s premier football clubs, paving the way for the preliminary round draws of the anticipated CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.
This authoritative list, carefully compiled by Africa’s football governing body, showcases the top 78 teams across the continent, containing the elite competitors set to battle in CAF’s flagship tournaments.
At the summit of the rankings, unsurprisingly, is Egypt’s Al Ahly, reinforcing their status as Africa’s football powerhouse and a world-class football club.
Trailing them as usual are South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in second place and Tunisia’s Espérance Sportive de Tunis in third. Morocco’s RS Berkane, who clinched the 2025 CAF Confederation Cup, secured fourth position, while Tanzania’s Simba SC and Egypt’s Pyramids, the shocking 2025 CAF Champions League champions, occupy fifth and sixth spots, respectively.
Completing the top 10 are Egypt’s Zamalek in seventh, Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca in eighth, and Algeria’s USM Alger and CR Belouizdad in ninth and tenth places, respectively.
This ranking reflects the competitive depth of African club football and sets the stage for thrilling encounters in the upcoming draws, as teams vie for glory in the continent’s most prestigious club competitions.
The Pride Of Rivers, Rivers United remains the only Nigerian club in the top 30 of the list, seating comfortably at the 24th position thereby cementing its place as a giant of Nigerian football, followed closely are fierce rivals Eyimba FC of Aba, who places at 35th position, but the absence of Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) champion, Remo Stars is shocking as fans have shown their displeasure and disapproval on various social media platforms.
