Court Rejects Bid to Unseat Wike-backed PDP Leadership

The Federal High Court in Abuja decided on Friday. It said no to a lawsuit that wanted the Independent National Electoral Commission to stop recognizing the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party that’s currently in charge.

This committee is led by National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed and National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu. The lawsuit wanted the commission to recognize a group led by Kabir Tanimu Turaki instead.

The judge, Justice Salim Ibrahim, said the lawsuit did not have a reason to be brought to court. He dismissed the requests made by the people who started the lawsuit.

The court also said the Peoples Democratic Party could not be a part of the lawsuit because it was not authorized by the party. The judge allowed some people, including Abdulrahman Mohammed and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, to join the lawsuit as defendants.

This decision is a win for the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Working Committee. It is a development in the long-standing leadership problem that has been affecting the Peoples Democratic Party. The party is getting ready for the 2027 election.

Some people, including Senator Adolphus Wabara and Prof. Jerry Gana, started the lawsuit. They wanted the court to force the Independent National Electoral Commission to update its records and recognize the group led by Kabir Tanimu Turaki.

They said this group was formed after a Supreme Court decision in April 2026. The plaintiffs said the electoral commission did not do what it was supposed to do after receiving a letter with the names of the new leaders.

The other side, led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, said the lawsuit was not valid. They said the issues had already been decided by court cases. They also said the people who started the lawsuit did not have the right to do so. The court agreed with them. Dismissed the lawsuit.

One of the issues in the case was whether the Peoples Democratic Party could be a part of the lawsuit. The judge said no because the party did not authorize the lawsuit.

The court also allowed some people to join the lawsuit as defendants. In the end, the judge said the plaintiffs did not have enough reason to ask the court to force the electoral commission to change its records.

The decision supports the Independent National Electoral Commission’s recognition of the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Working Committee. It will likely make the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party stronger as the party prepares for the 2027 election.

The Peoples Democratic Party is getting ready for the election. This decision will help the current leaders of the party. The Federal High Court’s decision is important for the Peoples Democratic Party and its leadership.
