Tamron announced the upcoming availability of this lens for Canon and Nikon mirrorless cameras back in April; however, the company has now confirmed that the 16.6x zoom lens will officially launch on September 26. Both new iterations of the lens will retail for $629 in the United States and $849 in Canada.
In terms of design, the lens remains largely the same as the E and X-mount versions that were introduced in 2021. In a review published by PetaPixel that year, Ryan Mense praised the E-mount version for its remarkable versatility and deemed it a worthwhile investment. Mense highlighted the lens’s capability to capture a “vast array of images” while photographers remain stationary.
“It brought me joy every time I composed a wide shot at 18mm, zoomed in slightly to reframe for a medium shot, and then fully extended to 300mm to obtain an image that appeared entirely different from the previous two. There’s no need for lens changes or to step out of my creative flow, which I find truly enjoyable,” Mense remarked in 2021.
These advantages continue to be relevant in 2025 for owners of Canon and Nikon APS-C cameras, despite the competitive landscape shifting with the introduction of the Sigma 16-300mm f/3.5-6.7 DC OS lens earlier this year. This alternative lens is priced at $769 and is compatible with E, L, RF, and X mounts — but not Z mount.

Tamron asserts that the 18-300mm’s 16.6 zoom range allows photographers to take both wide-angle and telephoto shots without the need to switch lenses. On Nikon Z cameras, the lens provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 27-450mm, while on Canon’s APS-C bodies, the range extends to 29-480mm.
The lens is equipped with Tamron’s VXD linear autofocus motor and features impressive VC optical image stabilization. It can focus as closely as 0.15 meters (5.9 inches) at the wide end and 0.99 meters (39 inches) at 300mm, achieving maximum magnification ratios of 1:2 (wide) and 1:4 (telephoto).
Although the dimensions of the lens vary slightly depending on the chosen mount, it measures approximately 125 millimeters (five inches) in length.
