MTN Gifts Super Falcons N150m‎ Over WAFCON Performance

Members of the senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, are continuing to enjoy the rewards of their hard work following their triumph at the recently concluded African Women’s Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Yesterday, it was the turn of MTN, the official telecommunications partner of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), to host the girls in Lagos, where they generously allocated N150 million to the team.

‎During a celebrity breakfast at the Eko Hotel and Suites, MTN presented the players with N115 million to share, while their officials received N35 million. MTN’s Chief Executive Officer, Karl Toriola, explained the reasoning behind this generosity, stating that the company was impressed by the team’s exceptional performance over the years.

He added that the nature of Saturday’s victory in Rabat would inspire many Nigerians to have faith in their capabilities, even when faced with challenges.

‎He remarked, “You are role models and an inspiration to Nigerians, demonstrating that when we rise, the world takes notice,” he stated. “At MTN, we believe in the power of connection, not just through technology, but through the soul and spirit of the people. Today, we are united with pride and joy through the unbreakable spirit of the Super Falcons,” he continued.

‎The event was attended by prominent football figures, including NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, NFF Secretary General Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, NFF board member Aisha Falode, who the girls acknowledged as a significant influence in their achievements, as well as top management staff from MTN and other stakeholders in Nigerian football. Toriola praised the football federation for fulfilling the agreement his company has with them.

‎He stated: “The national teams have consistently delivered on our commitment to the NFF, and we will continue to support the sport.” Echoing Toriola’s enthusiasm, Ifueko M. Omoigui Okauru, a non-executive director at MTN Nigeria, praised the team for their perseverance and encouraged Nigerians to learn from the girls’ journey to success despite the challenges.
