D’Tigress Extend Winning Streak, Reach FIBA WAB 2025 Quarterfinals

Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, booked a quarterfinal spot at the ongoing 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, after edging Mozambique 60–55 in a hard-fought Group D encounter on Monday.

The match, held at the Palais des Sports de Treichville, saw the reigning champions come from behind to maintain their unbeaten run, which now stretches to 26 consecutive games.

Trailing 28–24 at halftime, D’Tigress turned the tide in the second half, outscoring Mozambique 18–15 in the third quarter and 18–12 in the final period to clinch the win. A pivotal 12–0 scoring run in the third quarter proved decisive in shifting momentum Nigeria’s way.

Murjanatu Musa led Nigeria’s offense with an impressive 19 points, while Mozambique’s Leia Dongue was her team’s top performer with 11 points.

Although both teams struggled from three-point range, Nigeria shooting just 13.04% and Mozambique 20%—D’Tigress showed grit and determination when it mattered most.

This victory places Nigeria at the top of Group D and secures them an automatic place in the quarterfinals as they continue their mission to claim a sixth straight AfroBasket title.

The team is expected to return to action later this week as they look to extend their dominance in African women’s basketball and retain their continental crown.
