Shooting Stars sacks team Head coach Ogbenga Ogunbote

Based on the report, it has been confirmed that Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan has severed ties with head coach Gbenga Ogunbote, along with the entire management team of the club.

The Oyo-based team concluded the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League season in eighth place, achieving 15 wins, 9 draws, and 14 losses over 38 matches.

This disappointing performance has led the club’s leadership, headed by chairman Lekan Salami, to dismiss the seasoned Ogunbote, the full coaching staff, and General Manager Dimeji Lawal, effective immediately.

Before his exit, Ogunbote had been in charge of the Oluyole Warriors for two years and 11 months, having rejoined the club for the third time in August 2022.

Additionally, former player Dimeji Lawal, who held the position of general manager, has been relieved of his responsibilities ahead of the 2025/26 season. Former coach Edith Agoye is being considered for a return to the club to assume the managerial role.

Despite Ogunbote’s departure, there are rumors and reports suggesting that he is on the shortlist to become the manager of Kano Pillars.

The former coach of Enyimba, Remo Stars, Lobi Stars, and Sunshine Stars had previously declined offers from the Sai Masu Gida team earlier in the transfer window, expressing his intention to fulfill his contract with Shooting Stars.

Following his departure from Shooting Stars, negotiations are likely to resume, and he could be officially appointed in the coming weeks if discussions prove fruitful.
