Amusan Blames Injury for 100m Hurdles Title Loss

World record holder Toby Amusan has revealed that a training accident was the reason behind her failure to defend her women’s 100m hurdles title at the ongoing 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The 29-year-old Nigerian sprint icon, who aimed for her third consecutive Commonwealth gold medal, crossed the finish line in 12.60 seconds on Thursday night to clinch a bronze medal.

The gold medal went to Devin Charlton of the Bahamas, who put in a clinical performance to win in 12.33 seconds, while Megan Simmons of Jamaica took silver in 12.41 seconds

Amusan has previously ruled the event at past Commonwealth Games, winning several gold medals at the 2018 Games in Gold Coast, Australia, and the 2022 Games in Birmingham, England

However, speaking to reporters after Thursday night, the sprint record holder admitted that she was far from 100% in shape coming into the tournament.
