Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has said he would oppose his wife and even leave her if she became president and governed in the manner of President Bola Tinubu.
Amaechi made the remarks during an interview with Rapid TV, urging Nigerians to look beyond religious, ethnic and political affiliations and reject Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
He said personal relationships should not prevent anyone from holding leaders accountable for their performance in public office.
“Today, the closest person in my life is my wife, not my children. So tomorrow, if my wife becomes president and is doing what Tinubu is doing, I’ll be mad to follow my wife, despite my emotional attachment to her. It’s either she changes, or I leave her,” he said.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain urged Nigerians to assess the performance of the current administration and give the opposition an opportunity to govern the country.
“There’s a difference between Tinubu’s team and our team. They have been tested, so you know that the next four years you will die. We have not been tested, so give us a chance,” he said.
However, Amaechi acknowledged that his previous positions as Rivers State governor and Minister of Transportation meant his own performance was also open to public scrutiny.
“The only person you can say that has been tested is me, because I’ve been a governor. But my record speaks for itself. I was once a minister. Projects are out there,” he added.
He also called on Nigerians to participate actively in the 2027 general elections by turning out in large numbers to vote and resisting attempts to manipulate the process.
Citing electoral participation in the United States, Amaechi urged Nigerians to emulate Americans by defending their votes and challenging individuals who allegedly boast of rigging elections.
