The Rivers State Governorship candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs has appealed to the people of the state to entrust their votes into his hands, pledging to return political power to public purpose and end years of conflict that have delayed the provision of jobs, building of schools, access to healthcare and other basic infrastructures.
In a statement addressing citizens from riverine and upland communities, Chief Lulu-Briggs said the state belongs to the people and must not remain the property of any faction or godfather.
He argued that prolonged political crises have postponed political decisions, weakened public confidence and left young people waiting for better opportunities.
Chief Lulu-Briggs said the “Reset Rivers State” agenda rests on six pillars: peaceful and purposeful politics; honest and competent government institutions; an economy driven by production, services and exports rather than monthly allocations; fair opportunity free from political connections; restored public trust through the rule of law; and serious environmental protection as a matter of safety and justice.
He outlined a long-term vision to grow the state’s economy from its current estimated US$20 billion base toward US$200 billion within 15 years which he noted includes laying a reliable foundation that would provide reliable power, better logistics, tourism, skills linked to employers, stronger agriculture and fisheries, and projects prepared to attract serious investment.
He promised disciplined use of public funds, cooperation with federal authorities where necessary, and a government judged by results rather than announcements.
At the end of his tenure, he said, citizens should ask whether politics is safer, institutions more trusted, enterprises better supported and environmental response stronger.
“I ask for the opportunity to serve and be judged by the evidence,” Lulu-Briggs declared, urging Rivers people to choose purpose over capture and prosperity over poverty.
