KaaTruths Podcast has taken legal action against some of Nigeria’s major telecommunications companies over what it describes as unfair treatment of consumers.
The lawsuit reportedly involves MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria and Globacom, with MultiChoice, the operator of DStv, also named in the wider dispute. The action centres on concerns surrounding data expiry, subscription policies and other practices affecting consumers.
The move follows growing complaints from Nigerian subscribers about unused data being forfeited after expiry, service-related charges and the conditions attached to telecommunications and subscription services.
KaaTruths is challenging these practices on consumer-rights grounds, arguing that customers should receive fair value and clearer terms for services they pay for.

The case reportedly includes a ₦50 billion damages claim. The legal action is expected to put the companies’ subscription policies and their treatment of consumers under closer scrutiny.
The dispute also comes at a time when telecommunications services have become essential to everyday life in Nigeria. From internet-based businesses and digital content to banking, education and communication, millions of Nigerians depend on mobile networks daily, making issues surrounding pricing, service delivery and data validity particularly important.
The next stage will be the legal proceedings, where the parties will present their respective positions and the court will determine whether the practices being challenged amount to violations of consumer rights.
Any decision could have implications for how telecommunications and subscription companies structure and communicate their services to Nigerian customers.
