The Federal Government, in partnership with the Delta State Government, has distributed 20,160 bags of free fertiliser to 5,040 registered smallholder farmers under the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) and the South-South Farm Input Support Programme (FISP) to enhance food security and boost agricultural productivity.
The distribution was flagged off at the Agricultural Development Programme (ADP) premises in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking at the event, the State Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Kareem Abdulazeez, said the initiative reflects President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to achieving food security under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He explained that the programme aims to bridge the farm input gap, reduce production costs, increase crop yields, and improve the livelihoods of rural farmers.
Abdulazeez also cautioned beneficiaries against diverting or selling the fertiliser, urging them to use it strictly for agricultural purposes.
Also speaking, the Delta State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Ada Val Arenyeka, described the fertiliser distribution as a major boost to the state’s agricultural sector.
She said the initiative aligns with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, which prioritises increased agricultural productivity, food security and improved livelihoods for farmers across Delta State.
