The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has made an impact on a group of people who traffic drugs across countries. They stopped two trucks that were on their way to Kano and found 1.63 million tramadol pills hidden inside.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) also arrested an 80-year-old man who is suspected of dealing drugs, a businesswoman who is linked to bringing cannabis from Canada, a person from Chad, and several other people in different parts of the country.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says these seizures are the result of their planning and intelligence. They think they have found a network of people who traffic drugs using the route from Togo to the Republic of Benin to Nigeria to bring illicit opioids into the country.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency had stopped another truck a week before with 558,900 tramadol pills hidden in it. The investigators think all these pills are connected to the group of drug traffickers.
The first seizure was made on July 2 when the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency stopped a truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. They found 853,000 tramadol pills hidden under the floor of the truck. The driver, Jabir Kabiru, was arrested.
Two days later, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency stopped another truck. Found 777,000 tramadol pills hidden in the same way. The driver, Muhammed Nuhu, was also arrested.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says its investigations show that all these seizures are part of the operations of a group of people who traffic drugs across countries.
In another operation, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency found 4.70 kilogrammes of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
The cannabis was hidden inside cartons labelled “Odugwu”. Was brought from Canada on British Airways and Ethiopian Airlines flights.

He said the seizures show the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s growing intelligence capacity and their determination to dismantle organised drug trafficking networks.
He urged the officers to keep up the work, saying that the fight against illicit drugs requires continuous collaboration among security agencies, communities and the public to prevent Nigeria from becoming a haven for drug traffickers.
