The African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Rivers State has strongly rejected claims that any single individual can determine the state’s next governor, insisting that power resides solely with the electorate.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Rivers State Publicity Secretary, Barr. Chizy Enyi, the party described as misleading and anti-democratic any narrative suggesting that the destiny of Rivers State could be dictated by the preference of one person.
“No one person, regardless of status or influence, has the power to solely determine who becomes the next Governor of Rivers State. That responsibility belongs exclusively to the people through free, fair and credible elections,” the party declared.
The ADC warned that the era of foisting leaders on Rivers people was over, particularly with the growing popularity of the party in the state.
It cautioned politicians accustomed to election rigging to note that Rivers voters would fiercely resist any attempt to subvert their will.
The statement, criticised the mindset of treating the governorship as a personal gift from political godfathers.
The party urged stakeholders to embrace a contest of ideas, competence and vision rather than entitlement, intimidation and personality cults as the countdown to the 2027 elections begins.
“Power belongs to the people – not to political godfathers or vested interests. The ballot, not the voice of any individual, will determine who occupies the Brick House,” the ADC emphasised.
