The Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area in Rivers State, Amasenibo Abinye Blessing Pepple, has proposed that the council forgo its 2027 statutory tenement rate and revenue from the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited to fund critical road infrastructure projects estimated at over ₦1 billion.
Hon. Pepple disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NLNG, Engr. Adeleye Falade, to his country residence in Bonny on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
The chairman said his administration intends to channel the expected revenue into the construction of the Semidia Road linking Water Well 5 and the Akiama Road, along with an extensive drainage and canal system to tackle persistent flooding in the area.
“We have a conscience. We must give back to our people,” Pepple stated. “We are prepared to forgo our 2027 statutory tenement rate/revenue from NLNG to make these critical road projects a reality.
Evomec Global Services, the proposed contractor, has estimated that the Semidia Road, Akiama Road, and the accompanying drainage infrastructure to cost over ₦1 billion.
I appeal to NLNG to support us by paying the 2027 tenement rate/revenue directly to the contractor so these projects can commence without delay.”
The council boss highlighted that his administration has prioritised human capital development, education, security, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and support for small and medium-scale enterprises since assuming office.
He noted that Evomec Global Services is ready to mobilise to the site once funding is secured.

Pepple also commended NLNG for its sustained support in the establishment of the Bonny Fire Station since 2018, describing the company’s contributions as instrumental to the project’s success.
He appealed for further assistance in the provision of fire hydrants, firefighting equipment, safety kits, and other operational tools to enhance emergency response services in the local government area.
Responding to the chairman’s proposals, Engr. Falade commended the council’s developmental initiatives.
“I am impressed by the initiatives and programmes of this administration. We will explore ways through which NLNG can support your efforts,” he said.
The NLNG chief executive further described Bonny as a special place, noting the warmth and cooperation of its people.
“In my over 30 years of professional experience, I have not seen a place quite like Bonny. The people are welcoming, peaceful, and cooperative.

Bonny is truly special, and we regard it as home. As NLNG continues to thrive here, by God’s grace, Bonny Kingdom will also continue to prosper, and the impact of our presence will be felt by the people.”
Engr. Falade assured the council that NLNG would give due consideration to the requests for support on the road projects and the fire station.
“We have heard your requests regarding the road projects and the Fire Station. We will carefully review them and explore how NLNG can support the Local Government.
This is our way of demonstrating that we want to be part of the remarkable work your administration is doing for the people of Bonny,” he added.
The meeting was attended by the Vice Chairman of Bonny LGA, Hon. Ibinyefagha Alabere Renner; Leader of Bonny Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Kingsley Tammy Jumbo; Secretary of the Local Government, Warisenibo Tamunotonye Adolphus Jumbo; Chief of Staff, Elder Promise Bristol; and APC Candidate for the 2027 Bonny State Assembly election, Soparagha S.
