The Federal Government of Nigeria has deepened its digital economy partnership with the United States, with both countries exploring collaboration on Artificial Intelligence (AI), data centre investments and other critical digital infrastructure to accelerate innovation, attract investment and drive economic growth.
The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, disclosed this following a meeting with the United States Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Frank Garcia, where both sides discussed opportunities to strengthen cooperation across key areas of Nigeria’s digital economy.
Tijani said the discussions focused on increasing investments in critical digital infrastructure, including submarine cables and data centres, as well as advancing the adoption of AI to improve productivity across various sectors of the economy.
According to the minister, both countries also explored the establishment of a government-to-government framework that would help address trade barriers, stimulate business activities and deepen economic cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.
He said the meeting also examined opportunities for American companies to engage with and recruit talent from Nigeria’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s digital workforce.
Tijani noted that the discussions reflect the shared commitment of both countries to build stronger partnerships capable of attracting investment, creating opportunities for young Nigerians and supporting the growth of the digital economy.
He added that expanding collaboration in digital infrastructure, AI and technology talent development would strengthen innovation, improve productivity and position Nigeria as a competitive destination for digital investment.
The minister expressed optimism that the partnership would unlock greater economic opportunities for both countries while accelerating Nigeria’s journey towards building a globally competitive digital economy.
The engagement forms part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to expand digital infrastructure, promote technology-driven economic growth and deepen international partnerships that support Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
