Brugué Brace Fires Levante to Thrilling 5-2 Win Over Real Betis

Roger Brugué scored twice in the second half as Levante secured their first LaLiga victory of the 2026/27 season with an entertaining 5-2 home win over Real Betis, ending the visitors’ perfect start to the campaign.

Fresh from their victory over Valencia, Betis thought they had taken an early lead when Troy Parrott marked his first start for the club with a composed header beyond Mathew Ryan. However, the goal was ruled out for a marginal offside.

Levante also looked dangerous in the opening stages, with striker Iván Romero creating several problems for the Betis defence. The forward came close to breaking the deadlock himself, only for Marc Bartra to make a crucial goal-line clearance.

The breakthrough eventually arrived in the 24th minute, but it was Levante defender Dela who provided it. Meeting Jon Ander Olasagasti’s dangerous corner, Dela glanced a well-placed header beyond Valles to put the hosts ahead.

Their advantage lasted just 10 minutes. Parrott showed impressive determination to create an opening inside a crowded penalty area before finding Bartra, who unleashed a powerful strike into the net to restore parity.

The first half continued at a frantic pace, with two more goals arriving before the interval. Enzo Bardeli capitalised on an underhit pass from Héctor Bellerín before producing a stunning long-range lob over the retreating Valles to restore Levante’s lead.

Betis responded once again, with Rodrigo Riquelme heading home from close range after Marc Roca cleverly flicked an outswinging corner into the danger area.

Parrott had a huge opportunity to put Betis ahead early in the second half, but his close-range header drifted wide. Levante soon punished the miss as Brugué rose to meet a near-post corner and diverted it beyond the goalkeeper to score only his second LaLiga goal.

The 29-year-old was not finished there. Brugué quickly added another to complete his brace, reacting fastest after Romero’s effort struck the post and bundling the ball into the net to give Levante a commanding 4-2 advantage.

Olasagasti completed the scoring in stoppage time, guiding a clever header beyond the goalkeeper after Karl Etta Eyong delivered an inviting cross.

The emphatic victory gives Levante their first three points of the LaLiga season after a difficult opening two matchdays, while Betis will have to regroup after seeing their 100% start brought to an abrupt end.
