The Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board has provided manual sprayers to frontline health workers in all the 23 Local Government Areas of the state and also strengthened their capacity through a training programme specific to improving the health status of communities.
Effective Environmental Health and Safety Strategies, which lasted for five days, was concluded recently and saw the participation of Medical Officers of Health and Environmental Health Officers in activities geared towards boosting environmental health surveillance, infection prevention and control, vector control, and outbreak readiness.

Speaking on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the Board, the Director of Environmental Health Services, Dr. Temple Akagbue, explained that the move was in line with the Board’s effort to develop the capacity of the environmental health system in the state.
He stated that the training programme offered participants exposure to evidence-based practices and practical demonstration that would help improve disease prevention in communities.
Manual sprayers were provided in all 23 LGAs for use in vector control, environmental sanitation, and swift public health responses in order to enhance the intervention process.
The Board highlighted that the program was carried out under the leadership of the Executive Secretary, Dr. Chituru Adele, as part of the efforts made to develop a resilient primary health care system through capacity building and provision of necessary equipment.
The officials stressed that the program will help in the prevention of any future disease outbreak in Rivers State.
