The Delta State House of Assembly Service Commission has commenced its 2026 Capacity Building Workshop for members and staff, reinforcing its dedication to enhanced legislative administration and improved service delivery through continuous manpower development.
The training programme, themed “Effective and Efficient Service Delivery,” opened at the Conference Hall of the Prof. Chike Edozien Secretariat Complex in Asaba. It is being organised in partnership with the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Abuja.
Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Ebireri Ohwo Sunday, described the workshop as a strategic investment in the workforce, stressing that a strong legislature remains the foundation of vibrant democracy.
He attributed the success of the annual programme to the consistent support of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, who has always approved funds for capacity development, and the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, for his approval and cordial working relationship with the Commission.
Secretary to the Commission, Barr. Austin Uwasike, said the workshop was timely and essential for building a productive legislative workforce. He noted that the Fifth Commission under Ebireri’s leadership has prioritised annual training to preserve institutional memory and boost competence.
In his remarks, NILDS representative Dr. John Olanrewaju, speaking on behalf of Director-General Professor Abubakar Suleiman, hailed Delta State as a national benchmark in the legislative administration.
He praised the state’s sustained investment in human capital development, describing its Service Commission as a model of administrative autonomy worthy of emulation across Nigeria.
Participants expressed gratitude to the governor, the speaker, and the commission leadership for making the programme possible.
