Forrmer Miss Universe Nigeria winner Chidimma Adetshina is in logger head with the South African authorities , which is currently moving for her deportation.
The 25-year-old model confirmed this information after the Department of Home Affairs declared her and her young son illegal foreigners.
Adetshina appeared in the Cape Town Regional Court on June 9 after her arrest in Summer Greens.
The court released her on a warning and scheduled her next appearance for July 16.
Immigration officer Adrian Jackson told the court that officials traced Adetshina, interviewed her, and checked departmental systems.
They confirmed she has no valid residency permit and has stayed in the country unlawfully.
Home Affairs Minister Dr Leon Schreiber rejected her appeal in March. He said the department notified her in September 2024 of plans to cancel her and her son’s South African identity documents, but she did not respond.
Schreiber stated that Adetshina received a Nigerian passport while in Nigeria. She then applied for a South African visitor’s visa with a fraudulent bank statement.
Her application was refused, and she did not appeal. Officials declared her a prohibited person in December 2024.
The minister added that she re-entered South Africa on June 15, 2024, through the Lebombo border post from Mozambique by presenting herself as a South African citizen.
She later failed the good cause test for legal stay. Her son’s status depends on hers.
The award winning model withdrew from the Miss South Africa 2024 competition after questions arose over her citizenship.
Under her release conditions, she must remain at the address where she was arrested and inform officials of any change in residence or movements.
