Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) held a high-level meeting on Wednesday to strengthen collaboration on transparent and accountable collection of oil and gas revenues.
The Chief Executive of the NUPRC, Mrs Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, visited the NRS headquarters in Abuja, where she met with Chairman Mr Zacch Adedeji. Eyesan commended Adedeji for the reforms that led to the enactment of the NRS Act.
She described the transfer of revenue collection responsibilities as smooth and seamless.
She stated that NUPRC will continue to create a supportive environment for operators in the oil and gas sector.
Eyesan highlighted Nigeria’s strong production outlook. The country possesses the capacity to reach 1.9 million barrels per day and recorded a peak output of 1.86 million barrels per day in May.
In response, Adedeji praised the NUPRC for its professionalism, dynamism and commitment to transparency. He assured continued cooperation, especially on the transfer of revenue functions under the new legislation.
“I collect revenue. I don’t generate revenue. Wherever revenue is, I work on it and keep an account for you. So, I’m helping you to collect your royalties,” Adedeji stated.
The NRS chairman pledged full support to the commission to boost government revenues through fair, transparent and sustainable processes.
The two agencies aim to deepen this partnership to enhance efficiency in the upstream petroleum sector and ensure maximum benefits for the country from its oil and gas resources.
Stakeholders view the meeting as a positive step towards improved inter-agency coordination and revenue governance in Nigeria’s energy industry.
