The Emohua Local Government Area Journalists Association Worldwide (EJA) has condemned the killing of 22-year-old Anthony Eruchi Obodo, a fresh graduate of the University of Port Harcourt, and called for the prosecution of the police officers allegedly involved in the incident.
In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by its Chairman, Comrade Kennedy Wedeh, and Public Relations Officer, Comrade Emmanuel Ovundah Nlewedum, the association described Obodo’s death as “brutal and unjustifiable.”
Obodo, a native of Agba-Ndele Community in Rundele Kingdom, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, was reportedly killed at Agip/Ada-George Junction in Port Harcourt on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
The association said the deceased was awaiting his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) call-up before his death.
EJA commiserated with the family of Hon. Princewill Obodo, identified as the deceased’s father and APC State Vice Chairman for Rivers East, as well as the people of Rundele Kingdom and Emohua LGA.
The association also acknowledged the response of the Rivers State Police Command, which condemned the incident and announced the arrest of officers following the shooting.
However, EJA expressed concern over the omission of the name of Fabian Banabari, whom it identified as the prime suspect in the killing, from the police statement.

According to the association, the police statement instead referred to Corporal Louis Alfred, who was reportedly assaulted by youths at the scene.
EJA urged the police authorities to ensure that all officers found to have been involved in the incident are arrested, investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The association specifically appealed to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu; Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara; Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju; and Emohua Local Government Chairman, Chidi Lloyd, to ensure that the circumstances surrounding Obodo’s death are thoroughly investigated and that justice is served.
It also called for accountability, saying the death of a young man with “dreams and a future” should not be allowed to go without consequences.
EJA, however, appealed to youths in Rivers State, particularly those from Rundele Kingdom, to remain calm and peaceful while allowing the legal process to take its course.
The association said it would continue to monitor developments and stand with the deceased’s family until justice was served.
