The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has trained its officers on cybersecurity as part of efforts to strengthen data protection and improve the security of its digital systems and national data.
In a statement released by the Service, the training was organised through its ICT and Cybersecurity Directorate as a two-day Cybersecurity Awareness Programme themed “Cyber-Aware Nigeria Immigration Service”, held at the Service Headquarters Auditorium, Shehu Shagari Complex, Abuja, from June 16 to 17, 2026.
The statement said the programme was designed to improve officers’ understanding of cyber risks and enhance their capacity to safeguard sensitive information and digital infrastructure.
It added that the initiative builds on earlier efforts aimed at strengthening the Service’s resilience against emerging cyber threats and promoting responsible data management across all operational levels.
Speaking during the programme, the Deputy Comptroller-General, ICT and Cybersecurity Directorate, DCG A. Obianime, said the training was intended to deepen cybersecurity awareness across the Service.
She commended the Comptroller-General of Immigration for her commitment to reform, digital transformation, and institutional capacity development.
Declaring the programme open, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, represented by the Deputy Comptroller-General, Planning, Research and Statistics, DCG D.M. Bagari, said cybersecurity must remain a collective responsibility of all personnel.
She noted that as the Service expands its digital systems, it also becomes more exposed to cyber threats, stressing the need for continuous vigilance.
The Comptroller-General added that the Service, as custodian of critical national data, must remain alert to cyber risks and strengthen its internal safeguards.
The programme featured presentations on cyber threat analysis, cybercrime fundamentals, and intelligence in the digital environment, as well as interactive sessions on prevention and investigation techniques.
The Service said the initiative reflects its commitment to strengthening data security, improving staff capacity, and promoting responsible digital practices in support of migration management and national security.
