Residents of Rumuokwachi, a town in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, have complained that life in the area has become unbearable as a result of flooding that continually engulfs homes and makes living in the area difficult and even dangerous whenever there is rain.
With houses submerged by the continuous flooding that gets worse when it rains, people are forced to stay indoors and even make their way through the water just to go about normal daily activities.
According to many parents highlighted by Nigeria Info on Wednesday, children’s education has also been greatly affected by the problem, with pupils being unable to attend classes during times of rainfall.

The means of transport in the area has equally been greatly affected, with commercial drivers abandoning the flooded streets to operate their businesses elsewhere.
The local business owners claim that there has been a high level of crippling in the economic activities in the region due to the flooded state, causing inability among people to visit shopping centers.
According to the local business owners, the sales have dropped drastically and have been causing huge economic losses for the traders since the products stocked in their shops are going bad.
Other local residents even accuse some individuals reported to come from the neighboring Ogbogoro community of blocking drainage systems in the region because they want the extension of an existing road project into their region. It is yet to be confirmed.
They urged relevant authorities to urgently intervene for the reccuring flooding problem in the locale.
