Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri is marking his birthday today with a call for solemn reflection and prayer rather than public festivities.
In a statement posted on his X page to commemorate the day, the governor emphasised his long-standing principle of avoiding “loud celebrations.”
He revealed that his preference for a private birthday predates his time in office and has remained a consistent practice throughout his governorship.
Describing the significance of the day, Diri noted that he views his birthday as a period for deep spiritual engagement and personal inventory.
He explicitly discouraged supporters and associates from organising elaborate events on his behalf, maintaining that his focus remains on spiritual gratitude.
While expressing appreciation for the deluge of good wishes from citizens and well-wishers, the governor made a specific appeal for intercessory prayers.
Instead of gifts or parties, he requested that the people of Bayelsa join him in seeking sound health and wisdom for the leadership, joy within his personal family and peace and prosperity for the entirety of the state.
Reaffirming his dedication to the state’s development, Diri used the occasion to assure Bayelsans of his administration’s continued focus on governance.
He highlighted that his “Government of Assured Prosperity” is currently focused on establishing “enduring legacies” intended to serve the state for generations.
The governor thanked the public for their continued support and affection, promising that his commitment to the service and progress of the state remains unshaken.
Diri was born on June 4, 1959, and he is celebrating his 67th birthday.
