Families of Fallen Heroes Get Lifeline Under Renewed Hope Initiative

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has attended the presentation of financial support to families of fallen heroes of the Armed Forces and the Nigeria Police Force under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Social Investment Programme.

The event, organised by the Office of the First Lady of Nigeria through the RHI, was held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The second edition of the initiative focused on families of security personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty since the inception of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

A total of 1,638 families of deceased police officers received financial empowerment packages aimed at helping them rebuild their livelihoods and cater to the needs of their dependants.

The event was attended by the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima; wife of the Senate President, Mrs Ekaette Unoma Akpabio; service chiefs; the President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), as well as wives of heads of security agencies.

Speaking during the ceremony, Disu expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the First Lady for the intervention, describing it as a demonstration of national gratitude and compassion towards families of security personnel who paid the supreme price in the line of duty.

The IGP said the Renewed Hope Initiative goes beyond government policy, stressing that it was also about restoring dignity and supporting citizens during their most vulnerable moments.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Disu assured them that the sacrifices of their loved ones would remain remembered by the nation.

He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to prioritising the welfare of its personnel and providing continuous support to the families of its departed officers.

The event was contained in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, on Thursday in Abuja. I can also provide 5–10 stronger headline options for this story if you want.
