Veteran Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello has sparked widespread conversation after sharing her thoughts on commercial sex work during a recent appearance on the Morayo show.
During the interview, she said she does not judge women who get involved in sex work, especially when it is driven by survival or urgent financial needs. According to her, some people find themselves in such situations because of the pressure to take care of basic responsibilities or support their families.
“If what you are doing now is being a ‘runs girl’ to make money, you don’t have to stay there. I understand it, I never judge. If you go be ash*wo, do am well. Do it well with respect and your full-chest.
Shaffy Bello explained that while she understands the reality behind such choices, she does not believe anyone should remain in that lifestyle permanently. She also encouraged those involved to always prioritise their safety, dignity, and self-respect, regardless of their circumstances.
“However, don’t stay there… Some girls are doing it because they need to feed mom, send their younger ones to school. I understand it. However, my darlings, don’t stay there,” she said.
She further noted that financial struggles often push people into difficult decisions, adding that some women take on such work to feed their parents or sponsor their siblings’ education.
Her remarks have since triggered mixed reactions online, with many people debating her comments and the broader issues of survival, morality, and economic pressure.
