(Full Fixture): Nigeria U-20 begins Women’s World Cup Campaign Against Spain

Nigeria’s Falconets will begin their campaign at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland on Monday, September 7, when they face Spain in their opening Group F fixture.

‎The Nigerian side has been drawn in a group alongside Spain, China and New Caledonia, with the Falconets aiming to progress deep into the tournament and finally win a competition in which they have twice finished as runners-up.

‎Nigeria has reached the final of the U-20 Women’s World Cup on two occasions, in 2010 and 2014, but suffered defeat to Germany in both finals. Despite falling short of the ultimate prize, the Falconets have maintained an impressive record at the tournament, qualifying for every edition since the competition was introduced in 2002.

‎Their first challenge in Poland will come against Spain at 5:00 pm Nigerian time on Monday. The encounter is expected to provide an early indication of Nigeria’s ambitions, with a positive result potentially giving the team momentum heading into the remaining group matches.

‎The Falconets will then face China in their second Group F game on Thursday, September 10. The match is scheduled to kick off at 5:00 pm WAT.

‎Nigeria’s final group-stage fixture will be against New Caledonia on Sunday, September 13, with the match scheduled for 2:00 pm Nigerian time.

‎The Falconets will be hoping to navigate the group successfully and advance to the knockout stages, where they can continue their pursuit of a historic first U-20 Women’s World Cup title.

‎With a strong tradition in the competition, Nigeria will enter the tournament with expectations high. The team’s ability to start strongly against Spain could prove crucial in determining its prospects of progressing from a competitive Group F.

‎For the Falconets, the objective is clear: build on Nigeria’s impressive history at the tournament, overcome the disappointment of previous final defeats and mount a serious challenge for the coveted world title.
