NFF Set to Announce New Super Falcons Coach Ahead of 2028 Olympics

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), in collaboration with the National Sports Commission (NSC), is set to announce the appointment of a new head coach for the Super Falcons on Tuesday in Abuja.

‎According to the recent Sports report, the appointment is part of efforts to reposition Nigeria’s senior women’s national team and begin early preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

‎The Super Falcons are coming off a disappointing 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Morocco, where the nine-time African champions were eliminated in the quarter-finals. The early exit also meant Nigeria failed to secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

‎Following the underwhelming campaign, Justin Madugu was relieved of his position as head coach, leaving the NFF with the responsibility of identifying a suitable replacement to lead the team into its next major assignment.

‎The federation is understood to be keen to appoint a new coach as soon as possible, particularly with the Olympic qualifying campaign approaching.

‎A senior NSC official told BSN Sports that the announcement would be made in Abuja on Tuesday as part of plans to give the Super Falcons sufficient time to prepare for the demanding Olympic qualification series.

‎“To start the preparation for the 2028 Olympic Games early, the NFF will announce the new Super Falcons coach on Tuesday,” the official said.

‎However, the official declined to reveal the identity of the incoming coach, urging Nigerians to wait for the formal unveiling. The appointment will be crucial as Nigeria seeks to build on its participation at the Paris 2024 Olympics and secure another appearance at the global tournament.

‎The new coach will also inherit a talented squad featuring several established international stars and will be expected to restore confidence, improve consistency and guide the team through the Olympic qualifying campaign.

‎With the announcement now imminent, attention has shifted to who will take charge of one of Africa’s most successful women’s football teams and lead the Super Falcons towards Los Angeles 2028.
