Reports indicate that Siminalayi Fubara has formally submitted his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms under the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 governorship race in Rivers State, signaling a major political move as preparations for the election gather momentum.
The development positions the governor for a possible second-term bid and sets the stage for what could become a major political showdown in the state, particularly amid his lingering rift with Nyesom Wike, his former political ally and predecessor.
A delegation of APC stakeholders in Rivers State, led by Awaji-Inombek Abiante, had earlier obtained the nomination forms on behalf of the governor at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja. The group said the move reflected popular support for continuity in leadership and was driven by grassroots interests across the state.

Party insiders say the governor is expected to undergo screening by the APC committee in the coming days as part of the process leading to the party’s governorship primary.
The latest move further deepens the political divide between Fubara and Wike, whose relationship has deteriorated sharply since the governor’s emergence in 2023. The crisis has reshaped political alignments in Rivers, with both camps now building rival structures ahead of 2027.
Political observers believe Fubara’s alignment with the APC could strengthen his political standing at the federal level while consolidating his influence in Rivers State.
With the 2027 governorship contest already taking shape, attention is now focused on the outcome of the party’s screening process and the possible emergence of rival contenders in what is expected to be one of Nigeria’s most closely watched state elections.
