The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged security forces to respond immediately in the wake of reports that their former coordinator of the youth wing, Mr. Richard Ogidi, has been abducted in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
According to a statement made available by Hon. Brain Anucha (Jnr) on Thursday via X, Mr. Ogidi was allegedly abducted from his house in Port Harcourt by unknown individuals during the early morning hours of Tuesday.
The abduction of Mr. Ogidi has caused alarm within the political party, especially as the ADC Rivers State Youth Wing has condemned his kidnapping and called for his immediate release.
In a statement signed by the Hon. Anucha (Jnr), the development has been described as shocking.
“A member of the @ADCNig family in ONELGA, our brother Richard Ogidi, former ADC ONELGA Youth Wing Coordinator, was reportedly kidnapped in the early hours of today at his residence in Port Harcourt.”

“This disturbing development is deeply concerning. We strongly condemn this act and call on security agencies to act swiftly to ensure his safe and immediate release,” the statement read.
It also showed support for Ogidi’s relatives, friends, and members of the ADC in ONELGA, saying this is a tough time for all the people associated with him.
The party reiterated that the security of lives and properties must always be a priority, cautioning that cases of kidnapping must not keep on happening in Rivers State, as well as in other areas around the country.
However, there were no clear facts about the victims whereabout and whether the abductors had contacted anyone or raised their demands.
At the time of publishing this report, there has been no response from the spokesperson of Rivers State Police Command, Agabe Kaborlo, whom this reporter attempted to reach out.
Abduction of persons remains a major security threat in Rivers State and many other places in Nigeria, notwithstanding the frequent assurances of the government regarding what it is doing about the problem.
ADC says it will be monitoring the situation and will be updating the public on the development.
