Grammy: Tyla Beats Davido, Ayra Starr, Others

South African amapiano-pop sensation, Tyla, has bagged her second Grammy win in Best African Music Performance for ‘PUSH 2 START’ at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards on the 1st of February 2026. Tyla was selected as the winner against Davido’s “With You” featuring Omah Lay, Burna Boy’s ‘Love’, Arya Starr’s ‘Gimme Dat’ featuring Wizkid, and Eddy Kenzo & Mehran Matin’s ‘Hope & Love.’

Tyla has rapidly transformed from a local artist into a global superstar. Her music is a unique fusion of pop, R&B, and South African amapiano, which she has dubbed “popiano”.
Following her signature win in 2024 for the viral smash ‘Water’, Tyla’s latest track continued her period of global success.

The repeated triumph makes her the first artist to repeat in the category’s short history and showcases her as an indispensable force in modern African music. There’s no doubt that Tyla is making waves in the music industry with her innovative songs and hits.

“Push 2 Start,” featured on the deluxe edition of her self-titled debut album Tyla+, combines amapiano rhythms with pop elements. The song gained strong commercial performance, reaching over 614 million streams across platforms (the highest among the nominees) and charting successfully in markets including the U.S. and UK.

The result comes just after Nigerian artist Tems won the category in 2025 for “Love Me JeJe,” but unfortunately, Nigerian nominees did not win the award this year despite high expectations from fans.

The repeated wins showcase the Academy’s investment in building artists’ sustained careers with creative sounds and ideas, therefore raising the bar for music worldwide.
