The Managing Director of Port Harcourt Refinery has been sacked as part of a broader restructuring effort within the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
This move isn’t isolated, as the MDs of Warri and Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company were also relieved of their duties
Affected Personnel:
Bala Wunti: Former Chief of National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS)
Ibrahim Onoja: Managing Director of Kaduna Refinery

Lawal Sade: Chief Compliance Officer and former Managing Director of NNPCL Trading.
New Appointments:
Maryam Idrisu: Appointed as Managing Director of NNPCL Trading, overseeing crude oil transactions.
Obioma Abangwu: Chief Liaison Officer for board matters.
The restructuring, impacting over 200 employees, is believed to be linked to the staff members’ close association with Mele Kyari, the former Group Chief Executive Officer who was removed from office on April 2, 2025
The sackings and new appointments are part of a larger effort to overhaul the NNPC Ltd, potentially paving the way for increased efficiency and productivity.
However, some speculate that the changes might simply be a means for the new management to bring in their own team members.
