For Owen Oseni the Super Eagles invitation still feels like a dream. The Plymouth Argyle striker says being called up to the Super Eagles is one of the moments of his young career. He was named in Eric Chelle’s squad for the 2026 Unity Cup and friendlies against Poland and Portugal.
At 23 Oseni says he never expected it. He had a season in England scoring 10 goals in 33 games for Plymouth. The striker who can play for Nigeria because of his father says the chance to play for the Super Eagles was too good to refuse.
“When they asked me it was a no-brainer ” Oseni told BBC Sport. “Playing for a country with many football fans is huge for me. I was really excited.” Oseni joined Plymouth Argyle summer after playing in Scotland and lower divisions in England. His rise is pretty amazing. He finished the season strong scoring three goals in his four games. Plymouth almost made the League One play-offs.
Now Oseni’s focus is on London. He hopes to make his debut when Nigeria plays Zimbabwe in Tuesday’s Unity Cup semi-final. A possible final, against India or Jamaica could follow. Despite all the attention Oseni is staying humble.
“All I know is to keep working ” he said. For a player who was playing lower-league football not long ago the Super Eagles call-up feels like just the start of something big.
