Court Sentence Late Osinachi’s Husband To Death By Hanging

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court Wuse Zone 2 has sentenced Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of late popular gospel singer Osinachi, after finding him guilty of several count charges, including culpable homicide.

The judgment was delivered on Monday by Justice Nwosu-Iheme of the FCT High Court, Wuse Zone 2.

Nwachukwu was found guilty on 8 April 2022, for culpable homicide, leading to the death of his wife, Osinachi.

The judge ruled that the prosecution successfully proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation had arraigned Nwachukwu on 3 June 2022, on a 23-count charge, which included culpable homicide punishable by death, spousal battery, cruelty to children, and criminal intimidation.

During the trial, the prosecution called 17 witnesses, including two of the late singer’s children, who testified as the fourth and fifth prosecution witnesses.

In addition, a total of 25 documents were submitted as evidence.

For his defence, Nwachukwu testified himself, presented four additional witnesses, and tendered four exhibits.

Before the final judgment, Nwachukwu’s lawyer, Reginald Nwali, pleaded for leniency.

However, the prosecution, led by Mrs. Aderonke Imala, urged the court to uphold the full weight of the law.

In her ruling, Justice Nwosu-Iheme sentenced Nwachukwu to death by hanging on the first count.

He also received various prison sentences on other charges: two years imprisonment each on Counts 2, 3, 8, 9, 12, 13, and 18; six months on Count 10; and three years on Count 11.

Additionally, he was fined N500,000 and N200,000 on Counts 6 and 7 respectively.
