A lot of families in Rivers State has been reportedly divided as a result of the current political instability in the state, putting many marriages at the brink of collapse. Since President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state, pro and anti protests have sent a signal that the state is not politically stable.
A notable incident of how the crisis in the state has impacted negatively on families, happened around the Emohua axis of the state where a man was said to have beaten up his wife for taken part in a politically motivated protest.
Speaking with our correspondent, the state chairperson of FIDA, Barr Emi George described the political situation as painful, saying that the pain in the state is the type “we have not experienced since 1960.”

The state chairperson said, “FIDA is apolitical and our partnership is with the judiciary. It is on its behalf we are running mediations now. The situation in Rivers State has divided marriages and children.

There was a recent report in the state on how a man beats up his wife mercilessly for joining a political protest where they gave her two thousand naira. He was asking her who sent her to go and protest.
“He further said he is not marrying her again. It was that bad. The crisis in Rivers State has a very serious toll on families. In his bid to douse the political tension in the state, the state Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd) has dismantled the political structure of the suspended Governor, Siminalayi Fubara which many Nigerians have criticised, insisting that Ibas can not achieve peace with such actions.
The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike was also on a national media chat with journalists saying that his goal is to see Fubara completely removed as governor.
