Nigerian singer Tems has clinched her first individual Grammy Award at the 2025 edition of the prestigious global music ceremony.
The star won the Best African Music Performance category with her hit single “Love Me Jeje,” beating top contenders like Burna Boy, Davido, Asake, Yemi Alade, and Chris Brown.
In her heartfelt acceptance speech, Tems expressed deep gratitude:
“Dear God, thank you so much for putting me on this stage and blessing me with this incredible team.”
She also took a moment to honor her mother, who was present at the ceremony:
“Tomorrow is my mum’s birthday, and this is her first time at the Grammys. I just want to thank you, mum, for everything you’ve done for me and my brother.”
This latest achievement further cements Tems’ remarkable Grammy journey.
In 2023, she won her first Grammy for Best Melodic Rap Performance with “Wait For You,” a collaboration with Future and Drake at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards.
For the 2025 edition, Tems received a total of eight nominations, including:
- Best African Music Performance – Winner (“Love Me Jeje”)
- Best R&B Song – Nominated (“Burning”)
- Best Global Music Album – Nominated (“Born in the Wild”)
At just 29 years old, Tems—born Temilade Openiyi—continues to make waves on the global stage, solidifying her status as one of Africa’s most powerful musical voices.
