Man, his lover attack wife with machete for querying infidelity

A man identified as Chima and his female lover on Monday 15 August 2022 inflicted several machete cuts on his wife, identified as Nwakaego, for querying him about bringing his lover into their matrimonial home at Omerelu community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

In an interview with our correspondent, the Elder brother of the victim Anayo Warisi, narrated that the sister’s husband brought in his female lover to the house and when she inquired why he did, they both pounced on her, beating her mercilessly.

According to him, the husband allegedly used a machete in the process, to cut her all over her body.

“The machete cut was very severe, especially the injury inflicted on her leg because when my elder sister and brother took her to a hospital at Elele, in IKwerre local government area, she was rejected due to the degree of the injury she sustained.

“She was later rushed to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital UPTH and she is currently in a state of coma. We want the husband to be arrested because is a case of attempted murder,” Warisi said.

Meanwhile, the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign has called for a thorough investigation into the matter.

Secretary of the Centre, Gladys Oyenmwen, who made the call, demanded the arrest of anyone found culpable in the course of the investigation, noting the person should be made to face the law.

She added that domestic violence under any guise has no place in the society and should not be condoled irrespective of the perpetrator.

Also, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, who confirmed the incident said that the female lover of the woman’s husband has been arrested by the Elele Police Division through the effort of the Commissioner of Police, CP Eboka Friday.

Iringe-Koko further stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Eboka Friday has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Port Harcourt.
