Speaking to our correspondent, Publicity Secretary, FIDA Rivers, Sophia Afolayan, disclosed that they received a complaint from the victim on 17 June 2022, on how she has been constantly sexually abused by the suspect Bishop Felix Okpara Duruebube.

Afolayan said that the suspect who was arrested and detained by officers of Rumuodumaya Police Division on 18 June 2022, started defiling the victim at the age of 16 and now she has turned 17 years old, approximately making it one year Bishop Duruebube have been sexually abusing her.

According to her, FIDA got information that the suspect was being released every night to go home and return the next morning, noting that Bishop Felix Duruebube is yet to return to the station after being released by an officer named Rebecca on Tuesday, 21 June.

“After the matter has been prepared for transfer to the State CID, the suspect left the Police Station on agreement with one of the IPO’s by name Rebecca who said the suspect was going to get something to eat and he is yet to return. The Complainant’s mother waited all day at the Police station for him to return so they can proceed to the state CID and there was no sight of him all through Tuesday 21 June 2022.

“FIDA Rivers is saying that they are trying to sweep or cover this case under the carpet for the said Bishop. We will not allow it nor watch injustice being done to this young teenage girl, she must get deserved justice”.

She, however, urged all the authorities involved, the Commissioner of Police, the DPO of Rumuodumaya Police Divisional headquarters and its officers to produce the said Bishop Felix Okpara Duruebube while calling for the matter to be transferred to the State CID for proper investigation to be carried out and charged appropriately.
