Farmers in Rivers State have said their lives are in serious danger when working on their farms as cultists and kidnappers have decided to use farmlands as hideouts.

The farmers said only God has been saving them each time they coincidentally run into criminals who are now using their farms as their conducive place for criminal activities.

The farmers through their National President, Association of Commercial Farmers and Agro-Allied Producers of Nigeria, Engr Fidelis Amadi who revealed this in a chat with our correspondent appealed to security agents to focus more onslaught on farmlands in order to get rid of the criminals.

He said, “my brother, only God is saving us these days from the hands of criminals who now think only farmlands will they be used for criminal activities.

“Occasionally, farmers used to coincidentally run into these criminals and only God has been saving our lives.

“I am calling on security agents to start combing farmlands in search of the criminal activities going on in farmlands so that farmers can freely do their farm business.”

The farmers also advocated for more vigilante groups to be established in rural areas who will assist security agents in patrolling on-farm areas.

They said such security presence will deter criminals from converting their farms as safe haven for criminal activities.
