Nyesom Wike, the Rivers State governor, on Sunday, said that the mobile courts to try those indicted street trading, illegal markets and motor parks would on Monday become operational.

The governor who spoke to the officials of the task force team at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Sunday said that the magistrates would be sent to various locations to carry out the trials.

According to him: “From Monday the magistrates will sit various locations for the special to prosecute those contravening of the law which banned street trading.

“Your only business is to arrest these offenders in line with the stipulated laws and take them to the magistrates for trial. Anyone who is guilty will be sanctioned by the magistrates.”

Wike, however, warned the task force officials that government would not tolerate them taking the law into their own hands by manhandling any offender.

“We don’t want to see any street traders anywhere in Port Harcourt. Your duty is to ensure that the streets are clean.

“Those selling corn and other items on the roads should also leave. If you want to be a trader, kindly move into the markets,” he said.
