Common Sense 38

So there was a debate yesterday by vice presidential candidates of different parties. Nigerians went gaga praising the performance of PDP’s Mr. Obi and having a good laugh at the comic presentation of Mr. Osibajo. Mr. Obi was declared the winner of the debate and was promptly promoted to Aso Rock as a reward! Great!

Going over the debate once more, it was realised that all contestants did discuss that THEY would make Nigeria better by curbing corruption, increasing efficiency, empowering people and the rest. With facts and figures, even the Great Okwute Igbo presented the operational inefficiency of Nigeria to the delight of viewers. Unfortunately, he never spoke about HOW the problems would be solved. He only said that the problems would be solved by their administration if “elected”. The “how” was clearly not presented! This is where Reformers differ from the establishment!

Recall the story of the Elephant in the Room? Something as huge as an elephant is present in a Hall filled with people but no one seems to see it! They see the wall gecko, they see the ant, they see the roach behind the closet but the elephant is conveniently not seen by the several people in the Hall! Fantastic!

Even certified imbeciles realise that the bane of Nigeria is its structure; the majority of the citizens know that the 1999 Constitution is the major problem assailing Nigeria. The majority realise that the 1999 Constitution is a lock-down document, unfit for a modern country and not very useful in a sane society. But the so-called aspirants carefully avoided discussing anything about constitutional changes that would immediately reduce inefficiency, corruption, ports congestion, police molestation and the rest of the legion of vices resident in Nigeria. They simply reeled out our challenges and promised to solve them even by studying the Chinese Model. But no one told us EXACTLY how he/she would go about it! They know it’s the Constitution but that seems off limits!

An opinion poll was conducted on this platform and over 90% of the respondents absolutely rejected the 1999 Constitution! This percentage strongly believes that Nigeria could begin the match to Nationhood by absolutely rejecting this Constitution and restructure this country. But the debaters absolutely avoided the major issues dear to Nigerians but dwelled on 16 years of misrule, China and other stories!

On my own side of the street, if the political parties and politicians would not discuss the greatest needs of Nigerians but spew rhetorics on the ills of the country while promising us candies that matter little to us, it thus mean that either they’re too removed from realities or they simply refuse to acknowledge that there is an elephant in the room!

Dear, Readers, if the politicians are too blind to see the huge elephant in the room, but readily see the cockroach behind the cabinet, then they simply are too blind to see us or see our desires. They seem too far removed from us or too irresponsible to acknowledge the true ills of Nigeria and proffer pragmatic solutions with all sincerity of heart! These people are NOT prepared to solve the seemingly insurmountable problems; they just want power…to control resources.

I absolutely reject this sham. What they want is inconsequential to the majority of us. If they wouldn’t listen to the people, then we should pay them no mind! That debate, however good the winner might be, did not address the aspirations of millions.

The 1999 Constitution just has to go! That’s what we want and not some nice-sounding rhetorics!

We must #restructureOrBurst…or keep having politicians take us for granted! It’s just common sense!
