Youth Day 2018: Youths urge government to encourage entrepreneurship

In commemoration of this year’s world youth day of 12th August, theportcitynews was out in the street to see how Port Harcourt city youths joined their counterparts all over the world to celebrate the youth day.

Speaking to Mr Brian Prince Okwudiri, a pharmacist, he commended the idea of youths being celebrated all over the world. But coming back home to Nigeria, he said that youths in this part of the world have nothing to celebrate, as politicians in the country use them majorly to do their dirty Jobs.

Mr Brian said, “It’s about time that leaders in the country start having a positive mindset for the youths in the country”

He said that both government and politicians should prioritize education, job opportunities, health/ well being and the general development of the Nigerian youths as is being done in other parts of the world.

Mr Brian also used the medium to advised his fellow youths in the country to never to give up but strive more despite the present situation which is as a result of very poor leadership.

Continuing, Mr Brian advised Nigerian youths to be strong and never lose focus on their individual dreams, he said he believes that one day, things will change for good for the benefit of the Nigerian youths.

Also, Miss Anita, a final year student of law in the National Open University said that the government should encourage the youths to venture into entrepreneurship by giving youths soft loans instead of politicking with federal funds mapped out for such, adding that most Nigerian youths are gifted and skilful and therefore should be strongly encouraged.

Miss Anita also added that because of the large neglect by government and leaders in the country, the rate of female students in Nigeria universities involved in student prostitution is alarming.

She also stated that their male counterparts get involve in school secret cults because at the end of the day they get used by politicians and are paid to fend for themselves.

She used the medium to call on the federal government and the state government to improve on the livelihood of Nigerian youths, saying that whether they like it or not, one day they will die and it is expected that the today’s youth will take over with all the baggage.
