Illegal traders in Rivers State now have an additional one week to vacate from their different trading positions.

This is part of the decision taken at the state executive council meeting, held at the council chamber of the government house Port Harcourt presided over by Governor Nyesom Wike on Wednesday.

Rivers State Commissioner of Information and communication, Emma Okah, told journalists that the decision to extend the deadline before government dislodge street traders off major roads, followed appeal from some stakeholders in the state to the Rivers State Government.

“Government has received intricate and appeals from members of the public and our people, as well as well meaning Nigerians who are living and doing business in Rivers state that there is need for government to give a little grace period to those who are already engaging in illegal trading activities to enable them find alternative venue for their trading business.

“And so in difference to those calls and appeal, the executive council today approved a one week grace to enable the illegal traders on the streets and roads and those who are carrying out businesses in unauthorized places to find alternative venues.
