Rivers United Starts Pre-Season for CAF Champions League

Rivers United Football Club officially commenced its preparations for the upcoming 2025/2026 football season on Monday, with the team holding its first full training session at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium’s main bowl. Under the leadership of Technical Manager Finidi George, approximately 25 players were in attendance, signaling the start of their intensive pre-season regimen.

The technical crew and support staff extended a warm welcome to the returning players, urging them to mentally prepare for the demanding season ahead. Coach Finidi George underscored the importance of readiness, stating, “I welcome you back from the offseason break. Now it’s time to get ourselves ready for the task ahead of time. Welcome back.” His words set a clear tone for the focused work that lies ahead for the squad.

Rivers United’s strong performance in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, culminating in a second-place finish, has secured their qualification for the prestigious CAF Champions League. The team’s immediate focus is on honing their skills and refining strategies for this continental competition. While the CAF Champions League draw is yet to be announced, our Port Harcourt-based club is diligently preparing for any potential opponent.

The initial phase of training involves both players and club officials, underscoring a comprehensive approach to readiness. With the Nigeria Premier Football League expected to kick off in August, Rivers United aims to deliver a formidable performance in both the CAF Champions League and the domestic league, building on their recent successes.
