Two suspected thieves have been arrested by the Wokoma Youth Security Team in Buguma, Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The suspects were nabbed in the early hours of Monday, July 13, 2026, with cooking pots, electrical wires and some other valuables suspected to have been stolen.
The community youth security team has apprehended several individuals allegedly engaged in criminal activities in the area.
The arrest of the two young men, whose identities are yet to be made public, was carried out during a routine security patrol by the local security team.
A resident who gave his name simply as Mr. Achinike expressed worry over the activities of criminals in the area, even as he commended the efforts of the Wokoma Youth Security Team.
Achinike explained that, “these boys are really disturbing us here seriously. You even hang your clothes outside, and in the morning, you might not see them when you wake up.
“I agree that there is hunger, people are suffering, but it is affecting all of us. You are collecting from someone who might even be suffering more than you.

“Hunger is not an excuse. Now see what they stole. A woman’s cooking pot that she might be using for business to feed her family. This is terrible.”
Further, he said, “I want to thank the security team for all their efforts. Risking their life to protect our own and property. God will continue to protect them for us.
“I agree that every community should have its own local security because police cannot do it all. If something happens here now before the police come. So communities should have their own security.”
The incident has renewed concerns among residents over the rising involvement of some youths in criminal activities and substance abuse.
Community leaders and residents have urged young people to pursue legitimate means of livelihood, acquire vocational skills, and contribute positively to the growth and development of the community.
Some other residents also praised the Wokoma Youth Security Team for its vigilance and prompt response, describing the operation as a significant step toward improving security and maintaining peace in Buguma.
The team assured that further investigation would be carried out by the appropriate security authorities to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
