Jamie Vardy to Leave Leicester City After 13 Iconic Years
Leicester City’s legendary striker Jamie Vardy will depart the club this summer after 13 remarkable seasons, cementing his status as the Foxes’ greatest-ever player.
The 38-year-old, who joined from Fleetwood Town in 2012, made 496 appearances, needing just four more to reach 500. Vardy’s tenure included the 2015/16 Premier League title, where he scored 24 goals under Claudio Ranieri, and the 2021 FA Cup triumph under Brendan Rodgers.
Vardy’s legacy extends beyond silverware, with highlights including the 2015 Great Escape under Nigel Pearson and reaching the Champions League quarter-finals under Craig Shakespeare.

He also netted 18 goals in Leicester’s Championship-winning campaign last season but managed only seven in the Premier League this term. Leicester’s relegation to the Championship was confirmed after a 1-0 loss to Liverpool, marking their second drop in three seasons.
In an emotional farewell, Vardy expressed his devastation: “I’ve had 13 unbelievable years at this club with lots of success, some downs but mostly highs. I’m gutted, but the timing feels right. Leicester will always have a massive place in my heart, and I’ll be following your success. This is goodbye for now, but you’ll see me again soon. Thank you.”
The announcement follows Vardy’s apology for the “total embarrassment” of Leicester’s relegated season. A club statement on lcfc.com read: “We can confirm legendary striker Jamie Vardy will leave Leicester City this summer after 13 seasons that have seen him become our greatest-ever player.”
