Police Inspector Shoots Self Dead, Rivers Command Launches Investigation

A Police Inspector identified as Maxwell Zabu, who was attached to the former Chairman of Port Harcourt Local Government Area, Victor Ihunwo, reportedly shot himself dead in the early hours of Tuesday, April 22, at Ihunwo’s residence in Eagle Island, Port Harcourt.

Details surrounding the incident remain unclear as of press time. Sources confirmed that the matter was initially reported at the Eagle Island Police Post under the Azikiwe Police Division located at Illabouchi, Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt.

Detectives from the Azikiwe Division were said to have visited the scene as part of preliminary investigations.

Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Superintendent of Police Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident. She stated that while it is suspected that the officer took his own life, a thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances.

The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olatunji Disu, has reportedly ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for a more detailed probe.
