Local Security Receive N214b

Arms Shop

Thirty-five states in Nigeria have taken a significant step toward enhancing security by allocating a total of N214 billion for local security outfits, defense initiatives, and the purchase of arms and equipment in their 2025 budget.

Rivers State stands out, making the largest allocation for security in 2025 with an impressive N39.82 billion set aside for security equipment.

This substantial investment in security is a direct response to the devastating incident in January 2025, where gunmen in Rivers State tragically killed 14 churchgoers as they returned from midnight services.

The state’s allocation aims to create a safer environment for its citizens, ensuring that such incidents are prevented in the future.

The Rivers State government has assured commitment to strengthening security, which is part of its broader efforts to promote peace, stability, and development.

By prioritizing security, the state aims to protect its residents and create an enabling environment for economic growth and social progress.

This approach is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s emphasis on the importance of well-governed states in addressing internal security challenges rather than solely relying on federal agencies.

The allocation of N39.82 billion for security equipment in Rivers State is expected to tackle prevailing security threats, showcasing the state as a well-governed entity.

This investment will likely have a positive impact on the state’s economy, as a secure environment is conducive to business growth and investment.

In addition to the security allocation, the Rivers State government has also demonstrated its commitment to development through various initiatives.

For instance, the state’s 2020 budget prioritized education, with an allocation of N49.471 billion, representing 20% of the total budget.

This emphasis on education is expected to have a positive impact on the state’s human capital development, driving economic growth and social progress, futuristical speaking..

Overall, the Rivers State government’s commitment to security and development is a step in the right direction.

By prioritizing the safety and well-being of its citizens, the state is set to create higher revenue that would translate to both agricultural and infrastructural development.
