The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi, has approved the creation of two new magisterial districts—Egbeda Magisterial District and Opobo Magisterial District in accordance with Sections B and C of the Rivers State Magistrate Courts Law No. 2 of 2025.
Under the new structure, Egbeda Magisterial District will cover the communities of Akpabu, Egbeda, Itu, Omudioga, and Ubimini, while Opobo Magisterial District will oversee all communities within Opobo Local Government Area.
With the addition of these two districts, the total number of magisterial districts in Rivers State now stands at 39. The new districts are set to take effect on April 2, 2025.
Speaking during the inauguration of the High Court Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Committee, Justice Chibuzor-Amadi reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing data efficiency within the judiciary.

He expressed confidence that the committee members, leveraging their expertise, will develop technology-driven solutions to improve case management and judicial reporting.
The Chief Judge also urged the committee to be transparent in sharing judicial information in the interest of justice delivery. He commended the outgoing committee, led by Elsy Thomson, for their contributions and called for cooperation among ICT users within the judiciary to ensure the seamless administration of justice.
In his acceptance speech, the newly appointed chairman of the High Court ICT Committee, Stephen Jumbo, expressed gratitude to the Chief Judge for the trust placed in them.
He pledged the committee’s commitment to delivering on its mandate and improving the efficiency of the judicial system through technology.
